Leading California Produce Distributor Picks Purfresh for Improved Quality

Tanimura Distributing, Inc. Decreases Decay 40% with Cold Storage Solution

Purfresh, Inc. formerly known as Novazone, Inc., a leading provider of clean solutions for food and water, announced that Tanimura Distributing, Inc. (TDI) has chosen Purfresh’s cold storage solution to protect tomatoes stored at its expanded distribution facility in Irwindale, CA. TDI installed Purfresh’s patented cold storage solution in its storage rooms, extending the shelf life and improving the purity and freshness of tomatoes.

“Consumers today around the world are demanding food safety without the use of traditional chemical treatments,” said David Cope, president and CEO of Purfresh, Inc. “Purfresh offers our customers safe and clean advantages over these chemicals. We’re excited to have Tanimura join our more than 300 customers in 16 countries using our solutions to address the changes in the food and water markets.”

Purfresh’s ozone-based solution for cold storage extends the life of stored produce, decreases decay and enhances food safety. Purfresh’s proprietary technology also delivers critical data, sensing capabilities and automated alerts for monitoring and maintenance of conditions inside cold storage facilities.

California-based Tanimura Distributing, Inc. packages, ships and distributes fresh fruit and vegetables from local and international growers. After the addition of Purfresh’s cold storage solutions, TDI reduced tomato decay by up to 40 percent and extended tomato life by two to three weeks over other techniques employed at its Los Angeles facility.

“Rather than having to constantly check on the conditions inside our cold storage facilities, the Purfresh solution frees up our time to focus on more critical business issues – like delivering the freshest produce available to our customers in southern California,” said Kirby Tanimura, president of Tanimura Distributing, Inc. “By applying Purfresh’s solutions, we significantly increase our revenue, decrease product losses and assure our customers that our products are safe and fresh.”

Purfresh’s ozone solutions eliminate the risk of Salmonella contamination in cold storage facilities – one of the greatest risks to food packagers and distributors. Its line of patented solutions for food shippers, packagers, distributors and retailers is nearly 100 percent effective at killing harmful pathogens while remaining completely harmless to consumers. Ozone quickly degrades into atmospheric oxygen after killing bacteria like Salmonella.
